About The GASB
Established in 1984, the GASB is the independent, private-sector organization based in Norwalk, Connecticut, that establishes accounting and financial reporting standards for U.S. state and local governments that follow Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Board Members
Board members are appointed by the Trustees of the FAF for a five-year term and may serve up to ten years. The chairman, who was appointed for a single seven-year term, serves full time and the six other members serve on a part-time basis. The members of the GASB are required to have knowledge of governmental accounting and finance and a concern for the public interest in matters of accounting and financial reporting.

The Governmental Accounting Standards Advisory Council (GASAC) is responsible for consulting with the GASB on technical issues on the Board's agenda, project priorities, matters likely to require the attention of the GASB, selection and organization of task forces, and such other matters as may be requested by the GASB or its chairman.
