Brian W. Caputo, Board Member
Serving as chief financial officer/city treasurer for the City of Aurora since 1998, Mr. Caputo has extensive experience as a preparer of local government financial statements. Through his current role and prior positions as director of finance/treasurer for the Village of Mount Prospect and assistant finance director for the Villages of LaGrange and Hoffman Estates, he has wide-ranging experience in working with local governments of varying sizes. Mr. Caputo also worked as an auditor with Price Waterhouse in Chicago.
Mr. Caputo is a past president of the Illinois Government Finance Officers Association (IGFOA) and a past chair of its Technical Accounting Review Committee. In addition to the IGFOA, his professional affiliations include the Government Finance Officers Association, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Illinois CPA Society, and the American Society for Public Administration. Mr. Caputo also serves as an adjunct professor of governmental accounting at Northern Illinois University (NIU). He has taught graduate courses for NIU and numerous seminars for professional and academic organizations on governmental accounting as well as other public finance topics.
He holds a B.S. from the United States Military Academy, an M.S. in Accountancy from DePaul University, and an M.P.A. from Northern Illinois University. Mr. Caputo earned a Ph.D. degree from NIU with fields of study in public administration, public policy, and government finance. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Public Finance Officer.
Due to FAF by-law restrictions on Board member turnover in a single year, Mr. Caputo’s term initially will extend through June 30, 2019.
